INTRODUCTION TO MOUNTAIN BIKING

What you get

This 1 day course, ideal for beginners, helps you to safety check your bike, set up your riding position, learn some basic skills and head out on suitable local trails for a real taste of Peak District Mountain Biking.

 

Specifically….

  • How to safety check your bike

  • Bike set up and riding position, for climbs and descents

  • Braking

  • Use of gears

  • Weight shift

  • We will be out for about 6-7 hours, including a café stop and cover around 10 miles (16km)

 

What you need to bring

  • A suitable mountain bike (hire options available)

  • A helmet (hire helmets available)

  • The right clothes for the weather

  • A small rucksack for your bits and pieces

  • A drink and some snacks, plus café money for coffee and lunch

  • No prior experience is necessary, but come with a sense of adventure and be prepared to get muddy!

 

HALF DAY MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE

What you get

This half day ride is ideal for beginners, helps you to safety check your bike, set up your riding position and head out on local trails for a real taste of Peak District Mountain Biking.

Specifically….

  • How to safety check your bike

  • Bike set up and riding position, for climbs and descents

  • Braking

  • Use of gears

  • We will be out for about 3 - 4 hours and cover up to 10 miles (16km)

 

What you need to bring

  • A suitable mountain bike (hire options available)

  • A helmet (hire helmets available)

  • The right clothes for the weather

  • A small rucksack for your bits and pieces

  • A drink and some snacks, plus café money for after we’ve finished

  • No prior experience is necessary, but come with a sense of adventure and be prepared to get muddy!

 

FULL DAY MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE

What you get

This 1-day ride is ideal for beginners. Learn how to safety check your bike, set up your riding position and head out on local trails for a real taste of Peak District Mountain Biking.

  • How to safety check your bike

  • Bike set up and riding position, for climbs and descents

  • Braking

  • Use of gears

  • We will be out for about 6 - 7 hours and cover up to 20 miles (30km)

 

What you need to bring

  • A suitable mountain bike (hire options available)

  • A helmet (hire helmets available)

  • The right clothes for the weather

  • A small rucksack for your bits and pieces

  • A drink and some snacks, plus café money for coffee and lunch

  • No prior experience is necessary, but come with a sense of adventure and be prepared to get muddy!

 

BIG DAY OUT MOUNTAIN BIKING

What you get

This epic, challenging 1-day ride is ideal for adventurous, fit and intermediate + mountain bikers who regularly ride red and black graded trail centre routes for several hours at a time.

Specifically….

  • Multiple climbs and descents on varying terrain

  • Technical trail riding

  • Expert guiding and leadership

  • Trail riding advice on technique, kit and bike set up

  • We will be out for about 8 - 10 hours and cover up to 40 miles+ (60km+) with over 1500m of climbing (and descending )

 

What you need to bring

  • A suitable mountain bike – (hire options available)

  • A helmet (hire helmets available)

  • The right clothes to cover all weathers (weather conditions can change quickly in the Peak District so don’t forget your waterproof)

  • Your normal trail bag for your bits and pieces

  • Food and drink for a long day out, plus café money for coffee and lunch

  • Prior mountain biking experience; you need to be comfortable riding red graded routes at trail centres and fit enough to ride for several hours in a day

 

CORE MOUNTAIN BIKING SKILLS COURSE

What you get

A 2-day course to learn new skills or improve old ones whilst riding the world class mountain bike trails of the amazing Peak District.

Specifically

  • How to safety check your bike

  • What to carry

  • Cone of movement

  • Track stands and the importance of balance

  • Ready position

  • Use of gears in different situations

  • Braking

  • Manuals and power assisted front wheel lifts

  • Rear wheel lifts

  • Technical trail riding techniques

  • Simple trail side repairs

  • Each day will include 6 – 7 hours of riding or skills instruction, and of course, a café stop

 

What you need to bring

  • A suitable mountain bike (hire options available)

  • A helmet (hire helmets available)

  • The right clothes for the weather

  • A small rucksack for your bits and pieces, including tyre levers, spare tube, a pump and a multi-tool that fits your bike (hire bikes come with a tube and levers)

  • A drink and some snacks, plus café money for coffee and lunch

  • Some prior mountain biking experience is desirable, but you can go straight in on our 2 day course, or choose to do this after you’ve been on the Introduction to Mountain Biking 1 day course

 

BEYOND THE TRAIL CENTRE

What you get

A 2-day course to improve and widen their skills whilst riding wild and natural mountain bike trails. This builds on our Core Mountain Bike skills course and helps equip you to really get Beyond the Trail Centre.

 

Specifically

  • Bike safety check

  • What to carry on a big day beyond the trail centre

  • How to fuel your ride (what to eat and drink)

  • Technical trail riding techniques (we will ride up and down technical trails)

  • More complex trail side repairs

  • Introduction to leading a group

  • Route planning and basic navigation

  • What to do if something goes wrong

  • Each day will include 6 – 7 hours of riding or skills instruction

 

What you need to bring

  • A suitable mountain bike (hire options available)

  • A helmet (hire helmets available)

  • The right clothes for the weather

  • A small rucksack for your bits and pieces, including tyre levers, spare tube, a pump and a multi-tool that fits your bike (hire bikes come with a tube and levers)

  • A drink and food for the day, plus café money for the start and end of the day

  • Prior mountain biking experience; you need to be comfortable riding red graded routes at trail centres and fit enough to ride for several hours in a day.
